I really like Catherine's books. But, this one fell short. (And I'm not just talking about because it's a very short story.)Lauren has a way with people who are grieving. When she ends up being able to see ghosts, it helps make her job a little bit easier. Except when one of them becomes "Possessive" of her. She has a very strong attraction to one of the doctors that she works with. (Ethan.) Actually they both have a very strong attraction towards each other. Things start to heat up between Lauren and Ethan as well as the spirit attached to Lauren. But will Lauren be able to survive the violence of the entity? Will Ethan be able to help her? Will they both survive it together? These are questions that you have when you start to read the book. However, within 1 to 2 hours you know everything. It is a very short read. But that's not really the problem. It had a decent build up for the story, but there just wasn't enough body to carry it through. The majority of the parts with Lauren and Ethan were easily expected. The ghost part of it wasn't built up enough to give you the excitement or anxiety that you normally would get when reading a story about spirits and such. However, it was still a decent enough read.As for recommending at: As I mentioned, it was a decent read and slightly entertaining. However, if you're expecting to have any nail biting moments, or suspense, or anything like that, you might want to skip this read because you may be disappointed.
I often have a hard time with short romantic suspense novellas because I feel like they cram so much into so few words or chapters or that they rush the suspense part but this novella was masterfully written. There was just enough romance and the suspense was carefully built up over what felt like a sufficient amount of time without rushing it or totally taking over with little to no romance. I definitely recommend this book to anyone who enjoys paranormal romantic suspense novels or novellas.
Lauren, grief counselor/ ghost whispered, and Dr. Ethan Bailey rapidly move from a first date to being possessed by a malevolent, convicted, rapist ghost. An exorcism with a Father, a deadlock, a psychic medium, and her cat helps to rid Ethan and Lauren of this pesky critter.The rapid progression of the plot, and brilliant character development based on third person accounts/ statements, made this novella scary fun to read.
Another great book. Waiting for her next one. Enjoyed everything Catherine Bybee has written great thrilling, action romantic. Hard to put down once started. I've read three of Her books this week. Love her books. Waiting on series three of first wives club. I think I have read everything she
I have read several novels in series by this author so was not expecting the "supernatural" storyline. I see now that she has written many along this line. The book was also shorter than I was expecting. That said, I have always enjoyed her writing style and enjoyed the book.
If you can accept the premise of ghosts you will enjoy this quick read. I think the author captured the twist and turn (no pun intended) of ghosts, the unexpected consequences, and various solutions, with a light touch. I found this short story to be fun entertainment!
This was a short story that started out strong right out of the gate. Right away, I was pulled into the storyline and hope the best would turn out for them. The story progressed really fast. This is one of those fast paced, tramatic, oh my god, I love you stories. Great writing as always from Catherine Bybee. This is one of her earlier works so the writing style is different from the way she currently writes.
I like the author. Smart, well-written, not trying to be more than it is. It won't change your life. It won't affect your view of the world. But it will keep you distracted and entertained for an afternoon on the couch, which is really all that I hoped for.
